LRBT inaugurated its 17th Free Eye Hospital in North Karachi, Karachi on January 2, 2012. The facility has been opened in a renovated building generously donated to us by Mr. Kazmi for which we are deeply obliged to him. It is an 8-bed hospital that will provide FREE TREATMENT to 150 patients in OPD and will perform 15 Cataract surgeries on Daily Average basis. Standard Chartered Bank Pakistan celebrated ‘World Sight Day’ on October 8, 2009 by conducting a pan-Pakistan ‘Cataract Marathon’, where all Cataract Surgeries held in LRBT Hospitals were sponsored by the bank. LRBT formed a medical team which held eye clinics in each of the 22 IDP camps by rotation. LRBT sends mobile medical teams for the relief of Quetta earthquake victims

A strong earthquake of 6.5 magnitude jolted Balochistan early Oct 30, 2008, killing and injuring hundreds and destroying houses and government buildings. LRBT sent 2 mobile medical teams to ziarat, the most severely effected area. The teams commenced work on 31st October and have so far treated hundrerds for wounds, providing medicines and examining eye ailments. The mobile teams will continue to work as long as needed.

PCP Certification

The Pakistan Centre for Philanthropy (PCP) carried out detailed evaluation of LRBT in Internal Governance, Financial Management and Programme Delivery. We have been awarded 892 marks (89.2%) as compared to 843 (84.3%) in 2003. LRBT has been certified by PCP for the period ending 30th October 2011. PCP’s certification facilitates receipt of Tax exemption & helps in raising funds from philanthropists.

We crossed the 15th million patient mile stone in September 2008. Our 15 millionth patient was 3 year old Abdul Rehman the only male child of his parents, from a remote village of Balochistan who had been born blind. He was operated by our surgeons in Quetta and his sight was restored successfully enabling him to live a normal life.
