It’s a big moment for our fight against curable blindness in KPK and Pakistan. In the history of Malakand, Swat KPK, LRBT Free Secondary Eye Hospital Odigram, Swat successfully held the first corneal grafting surgery on May 2, 2014. Patient Lehayat suffering from Keratoconus was brought in to the Odigram, Swat facility earlier this year. After a thorough examination by our dedicated team of specialists, Lehayat was operated on last week. She was the first patient who underwent Cornea Transplant at LRBT Odigram and KPK. The surgery has completely changed 35 year old Lehayat’s life, with her vision restored she has so much more to look forward to in life. Odigram hospital near Saidu Sharif in Swat opened its doors to providing free eye care services in September 2013. The hospital provides free high quality eye care services to the poor people of Swat, Shangla, Malakand, Buner and Dir – an area which lacks basic health care facilities and has suffered a great deal due to militancy in recent times. The beginning of Cornea transplant surgery is a major milestone for the Odigram hospital and the underprivileged community it serves in KPK. We would also like to take a moment to thank our donors especially OFID, who provided much-needed financing amounting to $100,000/- for ophthalmic equipment required for the Odigram Free Eye Hospital in April 2014. Till the end of March 2014, 35,471 patients have visited its OPD and 4,499 major and minor surgeries have been performed – all free of cost. Since its inception 28 years ago LRBT, through its 17 hospitals and 54 Clinics, has treated over 27 million patients and performed over 2.7 million major and minor eye surgeries absolutely free. Odigram Free Eye Hospital is a testament to our undying efforts. We continue to pursue our mission to provide free of cost eye care services to the underprivileged in Pakistan
