LRBT Trustee Mrs. Spenta Kandawalla has generously donated Rs. 65 million to fund the construction of the LRBT School of Ophthalmic Paramedicine. The program is part of the expansion of the courses offered at the School of Ophthalmic Paramedicine in collaboration with Sohail University, Karachi. The generous contribution will be utilized in adding another floor to the OPD building where the school will be housed. The school will be called the of the LRBT School of Ophthalmic Paramedicine Farrokh Captain Center, after the Donor’s late brother, a trustee and major benefactor of LRBT for 30 years.

Mrs. Kandawalla has also agreed to provide a further donation to create an Endowment fund, called the Farrokh Captain Memorial Fund, to be used to distribute scholarships to needy, deserving and talented students. The family has donated Rs.20 million for this purpose.

The LRBT School of Ophthalmic Paramedicine has been operational since 2011, and is located at the LRBT Tertiary Teaching Hospital in Korangi, Karachi. The School offers certification courses for students wishing to train as operation theatre technicians, refractionists, and ophthalmic assistants. A BS (Optometry) degree course has also commenced from this academic year.
